Morgan Lewis windmill
At one time there were over 500 working windmills on Barbados that ground the sugarcane in the 17th and 18th century.
A visit to Morgan Lewis windmill is not be missed as it offers a unique opportunity to see the last operating sugarcane windmill on Barbados.
The mill includes an exhibit of the equipment used to produce sugar at the time when the industry was run by wind power generated from mills such as this one. There is a small café onsite serving drinks and snacks and a guide who will be delighted to give you a guided tour of inside the windmill and an insight into the history of Morgan Lewis windmill and the sugarcane industry. The views from the windmill are spectacular towards the east coast beaches. A must for history lovers!
